Rocklands Bouldering & Climbing
Rocklands
World renowned bouldering in South Africa.
What is Rocklands?
Rocklands is a world renowned climbing destinations featuring top 3 bouldering destinations internationally. The orange sandstone creates featured and varied holds that make for excellent routes for bouldering, single pitch sport and trad climbing ranging from very easy to some of the hardest lines known to mankind. The coarse rock is hard on your hands, so planning for rest days to re-grow some skin will be needed.
Where is Rocklands?
Rocklands is found in the Cederberg mountains 250 km (3 hours) north of Cape Town near a town called Clanwilliam. It is in a scenic semi-desert setting, safe and secluded. There are about 3000 bouldering problems spread over 53 crags in roughly 200 sq. km (77 sq. miles) of land. So basically, it's big! Where you want to go exactly will influence where to navigate to. See the getting there page for more details.
Access
Most of the original climbing is situated on CapeNature land and thus permits must be obtained. Permits for bouldering are not covered by Wild Cards. Many of the newer areas being developed are on private farms some which have small day fees. See the rules page for more detail.
